We continue with our destructive habits, drag ourselves day after day, take upon all the pain we have created in our life, and then on January first we suddenly want everything to turn around just by writing down our “resolutions.”
I’m calling out this bs because that’s what I had to do for my life for real change to happen.
Every year I would say:
“I’m gonna start working out.”
“I’m gonna make this much money.”
“I’m gonna cry less and stop oversleeping.”
But every year, I failed to see that January first is not a magical date that makes a sudden change in life.
It’s rather like any other day where we have to decide to commit.
And now I know that the decision to commit is not the first step.
The first step to truly be who you desire to be and live the dream life you always wanted…
Is to heal.
When you heal, you create a kind and nurturing relationship with yourself. You start to take care of yourself willingly rather than seeing it as a chore or necessity or force.
Good habits will form easier because you are open to doing good for yourself. You have space and energy to water your own soil and flourish as you go on.
When you struggle with destructive habits, when life is too heavy, when pain is non-stop, and when you know you need to change…
Don’t start with a habit tracker.
Don’t focus on the surface level actions.
Forget about how you’re eating, when you’re sleeping, or even if you workout or not.
Instead, shift inwards.
Sit with your pains.
Hold space for your thoughts and emotions.
Allow yourself to move through.
That’s the ONLY time that real change happens.
That’s when you shift to heal and move towards a healthy and nurturing life.
And it’s the hardest :)
So, the question for the new year is: how bad do you want that dream life?
Cause if you want it bad enough, if you are done with the guesswork, if you are done with how things are, even if you don’t believe that a better life could be possible, all you need to do is to take the first step towards your inner healing.
Then you’ll see the magic for yourself.
